In 2019, my parents got me my first camera, a Canon T3i, right before we went to Europe for the first time. I trucked through Germany and Italy with my camera on Auto, totally winging it. I shot on that camera for 6 years. It treated me so well, but as time went on, the camera got more and more outdated and couldn't keep up.
In June 2026, after roughly three years of saving, I bought a Canon R6. To say it has been a dream would be an understatement. The last two years leading up to this upgrade, I started connecting with a lot of photographers in Tulsa. When they asked me what I shot with, I was so hesitant to say. One person said "get back to me when you upgrade". It was a joke, but deep down inside I'm thinking "I don't stand a chance!". I had to remind myself that I've taken some incredible photos on my T3i. Quality equipment matters, but not as much as knowing your equipment. I mastered my T3i. With an eight-year technology upgrade, I now have a whole new beast to master.
The most satisfying part of what I do is not how much money I make or how much attention a photo gets, but seeing that a new photo is better than the last. Every gig is an opportunity for me to perfect my craft and do it for the benefit of those around me, creating art that gets added to someone's album of life.
